ASIS hosts the Disaster Experience™ at its Private Security Services Conference
With more than 35,000 members around the globe, ASIS International (ASIS) is the largest organization for security professionals. The organization is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals through programs that address broad security interests and specific security topics.
“Disaster planning is a big piece of what security people are doing today, so we wanted to offer a program that would challenge our members’ disaster response skills,” said Joseph Ricci, executive director of the National Association of Security Companies (NASCO), who also chairs the Private Security Services Council of ASIS. “Attainium was referred to us as an excellent provider of this kind of training in an interactive format, so we brought them in to work with our members.”
“We have conducted Attainium’s Disaster Experience interactive program for numerous associations,” said Bob Mellinger, Attainium CEO. “Each time it’s done, participants respond to the challenges presented, and the NASCO members proved their mettle through their responses to the various disaster scenarios presented.”
“The exercise was customized to fit our needs,” Ricci said, “and Attainium did a nice job of getting people involved… putting them in roles they wouldn’t normally have in their jobs. There was great value in the role reversal… It gave participants an opportunity to understand the impacts of their actions on their colleagues and on others throughout the organization, and people got involved in what was going on.”
“People’s reactions to taking the roles of their colleagues are always interesting,” Mellinger said. “I think it’s of the great benefits of this program because it provides participants with a perspective they would not normally get simply playing their own role. There usually are a lot of ‘Aha!’ moments, when someone suddenly sees why things can or cannot be done.”
“Attainium’s use of multiple media – video, audio, paper – in the exercise was a great attention-getter,” Ricci said. “We got very good feedback from participants who were quite pleased with the session. I certainly would recommend Attainium for a similar program for any group interested in disaster response training.”
