06/17/2009 - BCP Laws, Regulations and Compliance

According to industry analyst Gartner, even if business continuity (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) are not specified in a law or regulation, issues of data integrity and availability and internal controls can result in additional demands for updated BC measures to ensure the continuous availability of information. While compliance requires satisfying the letter of the law, BC requires going beyond the minimum requirements, to having in place plans and training - based on industry, geography and business impact analysis (BIA) - to keep your organization going under any circumstances. 06/10/2009 - Emergency Kits and Supplies

Once a year, at the request of many of our subscribers, we provide some suppliers of emergency supplies as well as the ready.gov checklist. Please note, however, that the inclusion of a supplier in the newsletter is not an endorsement, but simply an acknowledgement that these providers have supplies available. If you’re considering getting your emergency kits together, see what’s offered here and also try looking for "emergency supplies" with your favorite search engine. 06/03/2009 - National Safety Month

The National Safety Council has designated June as National Safety Month. Worker safety has improved in recent years, but, according to the NSC, "Nine out of 10 accidental fatalities and two-thirds of disabling injuries to workers occur off the job. In 2005, more than 60 percent of all accidental deaths involved either workers who were off the job or their family members." 05/27/2009 - Hurricane Preparedness

Are you prepared to deal with the dangers of summer? The Atlantic hurricane season officially opens June 1 and ends Nov. 30, although hurricanes can occur outside of these dates. In response to numerous requests, we have prepared this edition of NewsBriefs to provide you with more information on preparing for a flu pandemic. While we seem to have dodged a bullet right now, experts cannot be sure that H1N1 flu won’t be back stronger and virulent during the next flu season. 05/13/2009 - Business Continuity Planning

In the current economy, it’s difficult to focus on business continuity... on the other hand, it’s the best time to focus on it. Things like layoffs, cutbacks in services, vendor failures... these all can have an impact on your continuity of operations. The possibility of a pandemic also should focus us more on how to keep operating. 05/06/2009 - Employee Issues

There are any number of employee issues that can cause an organization huge problems and even bring it down. Beginning with the current H1N1 situation, there are many things that employers need to know and do to steer clear of employee situations that could cause business disruptions. 04/29/2009 - Pandemic Planning

Scientists predict that the world is due for an influenza pandemic—a global outbreak from a new strain of influenza – and that it could hit anytime. There’s nothing happening right at the moment to make us think it’s upon us, but this would be a good time to make sure you’re prepared for when it does happen. 04/22/2009 - Management Buy-in

Regardless of your business continuity needs – a plan, an update, training, testing – getting management behind them is the key to getting them done. When you get ready to propose changes or new projects, you need to get management behind you or your project may never get off the ground. In today’s economic climate, it’s even more important to be aware of how critical management buy-in is and what role the economy is playing in business continuity. 04/08/2009 - Facility Preparedness

Emergency preparedness is a top priority for both public and private facility owners and managers. They have the responsibility for anticipating what can happen, having procedures in place that minimize injuries and deaths, and having work spaces up and running as quickly and effectively as possible.
