05/21/2008 - Shelter-in-Place

Before all of the terrorist incidents involving chemical and biological agents, we were much more concerned about evacuation plans that got us out of the workplace. In the past several years, however, we have seen many occasions on which businesses and individuals were required to shelter-in-place. If you haven’t yet been similarly affected, you no doubt will one day. The issue will help you prepare for a shelter-in-place situation. 05/14/2008 - Compliance

In today's business climate, compliance with a huge assortment of regulations takes up a lot of an organization's resources. According to Gartner, spending on international regulatory compliance is growing at a rate twice that of IT spending. Failure to comply, however, can be disastrous to your business or nonprofit. 05/07/2008 - Cyber Issues

Cybercrime is estimated to be a $105 billion market and looks set to grow in 2008 as the complexity of cybercrimes intensifies. This issue contains key cyber issues that should be of concern to your organization. 04/30/2008 - Business Continuity Planning

According to an IBM study of more than 1,200 CFOs, in the past three years 62 percent of enterprises in the study encountered a major risk event. When a major risk event did occur (such as strategic, operational or geopolitical) 42 percent of these enterprises were not well prepared for the event. How prepared are you? 04/23/2008 - Employee Issues

When you are considering the risks to your organization, don’t forget the category of employee issues. From lost productivity to stress to insider threats, your employees can be a significant source of financial loss as well as the cause of serious threats to your business continuity. 04/16/2008 - Pandemic

Throughout history, the greatest number of deaths has always been the result of disease… smallpox, polio, tuberculosis. While we no longer have to worry about those threats, there are many more – AIDS, SARS, West Nile Virus, Hantavirus -- we should be concerned about and know what steps we can take to keep our people and our organizations safe. If you don’t yet have a plan for dealing with a pandemic, this issue should be of help to you; it also will provide some up-to-date information about a flu pandemic. 04/09/2008 - Making the Case for BCP

Business continuity and disaster recovery plans are critical components of an organization’s operations. Why, then, is it often so difficult to get the organization to commit the funds necessary to create, test, and keep these plans updated? Senior management buy-in is a necessary ingredient… as is getting everyone on board. This issue provides advice on how to make the business case for business continuity. 03/26/2008 - Testing & Training

Without testing of and training for business continuity plans, you may never know if they are worth the paper they’re written on – or the disk space they take up. First you have to find out if they work, where the problems are, and what needs fixing. Then, you have to make sure that everyone knows what is expected of them and give them the opportunity to practice so things become familiar. 03/26/2008 - Facility Management

Facility managers juggle many balls, and they have to be careful not to drop any of them. Among other things, they are tasked with maintaining the business continuity of their properties, something that has become an ongoing process that encompasses a number of areas. This issue addresses some of the issues facing building managers every day. 03/19/2008 - Identity Theft

Identity theft continues to thrive despite efforts by governmental agencies, businesses, consumer advocates, and law enforcement. Identity thieves keep finding innovative new ways to steal, and are becoming more sophisticated and skilled at their craft. One-third of all fraud complaints received by the Federal Trade Commission were about identity theft – approximately 258,000 complaints in all.
