Before all of the terrorist incidents involving chemical and biological agents, we were much more concerned about evacuation plans that got us out of the workplace. In the past several years, however, we have seen many occasions on which businesses and individuals were required to shelter-in-place. If you haven’t yet been similarly affected, you no doubt will one day. The issue will help you prepare for a shelter-in-place situation.

Without testing of and training for business continuity plans, you may never know if they are worth the paper they’re written on – or the disk space they take up. First you have to find out if they work, where the problems are, and what needs fixing. Then, you have to make sure that everyone knows what is expected of them and give them the opportunity to practice so things become familiar.

One-third of all fraud complaints received by the Federal Trade Commission were about identity theft – approximately 258,000 complaints in all.
