07/30/2008 - Testing and Exercising
Creating your disaster recovery plan is only the first step in implementing a business continuity or disaster recovery program. You CANNOT use the Ronco “set-it-and-forget-it” method because you need to ensure that the plan works – or it can fail you when you need it most. There are many ways to test your plan, and the articles below talk about several of these in detail. Just remember that regular testing and updating are the keys to a successful plan.
07/23/2008 - Facilities
You have a plan for your business, but do you know if your building is prepared? If you own the building, then you have to plan to ensure the safety of other occupants, as well as of your employees. Be as prepared as possible for events that can disrupt your facilities.
07/16/2008 - Identity Theft and Phishing
More than 8 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2005, and the data breaches cost businesses and consumers untold billions. A 2007 survey estimates that it now costs businesses about $197 for every data record that is lost – mostly on repairing damaged reputations. Learn how your organization can prevent identity theft and phishing losses.
07/09/2008 - Shelter-in-Place
Sheltering in place is still not top of mind with most organizations, even though they regularly practice evacuation drills. In the event of a chemical or weather-related emergency, however, shelter in place might be the only option you have. Enhance your shelter in place plan and prepare your organization and employees for such a situation.
07/02/2008 - Crisis Communications
In today’s environment, crisis communication plans and strategies have never before been so critical. We can’t just rely on what’s in place, because we may not have those tools available for contacting employees, customers and other constituents. We need a plan that will help use ensure we can relay information in a timely manner and for how we will deal with the media.
06/25/2008 - Terrorism
According to the Foreign Policy Center, widespread fatalism about the risk of terrorism means that many organizations are not taking precautions that could save lives and their business in the event of an attack… in spite of the fact that the real lessons of September 11 are that many lives were saved because emergency procedures had been drilled after the first attack in 1993. The real answer is knowledge and preparation; this issue provides information about terrorism and the actions you can take to help ensure that we are all prepared.
06/18/2008 - Reputation Management
Everything your organization does – from launching a new product, service, or promotion to responding to queries and complaints – helps define your reputation, which, in turn, has an impact on your bottom line. With the advent of the Internet and social media, reputation has become harder to control. In fact, managing your reputation can be a critical job that shouldn’t be ignored. This issue discusses ways in which you can prevent damage to your reputation.
06/11/2008 - Workplace Violence
The full extent and cost of violence in the workplace is difficult to determine, but it does affect an estimated 1.7 million employees directly and millions more indirectly every year. The benefit derived from prevention measures also is hard to calculate. It is known that workplace violence is the second most expensive source of workers' compensation claims behind car accidents. We all share an obligation to keep the workplace free of violence.
06/04/2008 - National Safety Month
"Make a Difference" is the theme of the National Safety Council's observance of National Safety Month 2008. Throughout June, National Safety Month activities will address the most significant reasons for unintentional injuries and deaths in the American workplace, on the road and in the home and community. According to available data, nearly all of workers' unintentional fatalities, and 70+ percent of disabling injuries, occur while off the clock. It makes sense, therefore, that helping employees stay safe off the job is as important to your operations as safety on the job.
05/28/2008 - Hurricane Preparedness
The hurricane season starts June 1, and, from all predictions, is likely to be a very active one, costing thousands of dollars in damages and lost business. It makes sense, therefore, to make your preparations… just in case. This issue provides information to help you survive and recover from hurricanes.
